Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)

The Calumet County LEPC serves the community through planning for chemical incidents and to promote the community’s right to know about hazardous chemicals. Committee representatives are from the following groups:

  • State & Local Elected Officials
  • Law Enforcement, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management (Civil Defense), Hospital & Health Officials, Environmental, and Transportation
  • Broadcast and Print Media
  • Community Groups
  • Facility Representatives

The LEPC meets quarterly. Visit the agenda center for past agendas and minutes.

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)

EPCRA was created to help communities plan for chemical emergencies. It also requires industry to report on the storage, use, and releases of hazardous substances to federal, state and local governments.

Report a Hazardous Material Spill 

Immediate reporting is required for certain hazardous materials spills. If you are aware of a hazardous materials spill, notify the DNR at their 24-hour spill emergency helpline: 1-800-943-0003.
