Farmland Preservation Planning

The Farmland Preservation Program is a state program which offers tax credits to farmers willing to preserve their land for agriculture while adhering to certain soil and water conservation standards.

In 2009, the State of Wisconsin revised the program. In order to be eligible for a tax credit, the land must either be in a farmland preservation zoning district or be in an agricultural enterprise area. (Existing agreements will receive a credit until such time as the agreement expires.) All land receiving a tax credit must be identified as being in a farmland preservation area in the county's Farmland Preservation Plan. The Farmland Preservation Plan also serves the purpose of promoting various other preservation tools and considerations for agricultural diversity.
